The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The PSI encompasses focus areas consistent with the field of prevention science, including prevention and intervention, and implementation science. Understanding effective intervention strategies and the outcomes associated with these interventions across multiple domains of functioning, including biological, social, and contextual, is the focus of research at the PSI. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan. The PSI is committed to research that expands our understanding of interventions and development with diverse populations, and actively seeks to promote research that reduces health disparities in service utilization.
The Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx-UP) grant serves to scale-up SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) testing to Latinx communities throughout the state. We plan to collaborate with community partners to continue the implementation of 12 recurring testing sites in 5 counties in Oregon. We will also include one new testing event per week at a location determined by community partners to be a value-added testing location. In both of these testing event types, we will continue to partner with community organizations to implement a Promotores de Salud intervention to improve health behaviors among testing program participants. This project has the potential to enhance COVID-19 testing access and reach for a significantly underserved population that is vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 transmission and at increased risk for severe COVID-19 symptoms.
The Testing Facilitator provides key coordination and support for COVID-19 testing events associated with the RADx-UP initiative. This position will be responsible for HIPAA compliance, facilitation of sample collections via self-administered nasal swabs and/or saliva collection kits, ensuring collection and completion of accompanying intake and registration data and research survey data, and assisting with transport or mailing of samples for processing. Interactions with patients will occur in Spanish and English. The Testing Facilitator will work under the guidance and the support of the Field Coordinator. This position requires the ability to work a five-hour shift in full personal protective equipment and to travel by car to testing events.
In addition to the RADx-UP events, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is holding a subset of their vaccination clinics in areas and venues that are specifically focused on reaching the Latinx community. They would like to hold COVID-19 testing as separate stand-alone events at these vaccination clinics. OHA has enlisted the UO to explore if we could begin new testing events in conjunction with these vaccination clinics, using a contract from OHA (flow through from FEMA). These testing events and the associated contract would be strictly a service to OHA/the state of Oregon, and will not include a research component.
If hired on as staff for either project (RADx-UP or OHA contract), this position requires travel to multiple COVID-19 testing locations within a region, approximately 3 hours one way. The position will last through August 31, 2022, with a possibility of extending work if COVID-19 testing is still needed.
