Job Description:
The Department of Foreign Languages at Weber State University is accepting applications for an instructor of German to begin July 1st, 2023.

We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a diverse student body in the context of an open-enrollment public university. Weber State University is an open-enrollment university with 24,000 students located approximately forty miles north of Salt Lake City, in Ogden, Utah. WSU has embarked on a strategic plan to become an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution by 2025. Ogden boasts year-round recreational opportunities, a thriving arts community, a historic downtown area, and easy commuter rail access to Salt Lake City.

Job Duties:
  • The position includes a full-time undergraduate teaching load of 12 hours per semester
  • Course load will include both upper and lower-division courses
  • Advising and service are also expected


Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in German or a related field, such as comparative literature, linguistics, or applied linguistics.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in German and English.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • A strong preference will be given to those with the ability to teach courses in Film Studies (https://www.weber.edu/FilmStudies)
  • Preference will also be given to those with an interest or ability to teach/develop courses in Translation, Interpretation, and/or Localization
  • Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in program building (e.g., German club, study abroad, curriculum development, etc.)
  • Ideal candidates will have experience implementing recent trends in language pedagogy
  • A successful candidate will contribute in meaningful ways to the department, college, and university’s continuing commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and integrate inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom and in course content/design.

NOTE: This is a one-year Instructor appointment. Temporary appointments are renewable by separate contract at the sole discretion of the University.

Salary begins at $52,000 (more based on experience) and the position comes with a generous benefits package.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
