Materials Management Supervisor



Summary

VCU Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Materials Management Supervisor in General Services.

This position is responsible for supervising and managing the Materials Management section including warehouse management, surplus property, GovDeals online auction of surplus property, and delivery/movers; provides equipment and furniture moving services, rental coordination, University event support, and surplus property removal; manages and directs warehouse operations to include central receiving area and the PPD online reuse program (GovDeals); and assures MRO inventory is accurately and adequately audited with MRO onsite vendor, Grainger.

The Materials Management Supervisor works independently and as a team to accomplish assigned tasks; is proficient in supply chain operations and warehousing operations; has the ability to accomplish multiple complex tasks with minimal supervision; is customer service focused and provides superior service support to field trades staff assigned to geographic maintenance zones and other ancillary facilities support sections.

In addition, the Materials Management Supervisor conducts annual, monthly, and spot inventories of MRO stock housed in the Facilities Warehouse(s), as well as GovDeals items for online resale, and all surplus/reuse items in inventory; keeps accurate and detailed logs, files, and electronic inventory; completes work assignments on time and error free; and performs job duties in a courteous and professional manner at all times.

Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Previous supervisory experience in supply chain management, warehousing, logistics, and/or purchasing
  • Excellent communication skills, strong math background, knowledge of general business practices including purchasing and accounting
  • Ability to work independently and diplomatically with both internal and external customers and vendors
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, make decisions, handle problems, and produce results
  • Ability to interpret documents and communicate compliance issues
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and PC-based database management programs; experience with a CMMS-based system; ability to analyze new data and produce statistical graphs and spreadsheets
  • Knowledge in the areas of material acquisition, sourcing, and vendor management
  • High School Diploma required
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License required
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or accounting strongly preferred; or combination of experience, training, or military service indicating proficiency in the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above
  • Commonwealth of Virginia budget and purchasing training or equivalent experience preferred
  • APICS Certification of CSCP, CPIM, or other professional supply chain/logistical certification a plus
