Student Life at James Madison University is currently seeking applicants for the Coordinator for Student Life, Student Involvement position. The Student Life Department at James Madison University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all of its forms. The Coordinator for Student Life, Student Involvement is part of Student Activities and Involvement (SAI), which is comprised of student organizations and programming. This position reports to the Associate Director for Student Life, Student Activities and Involvement.

Application Instructions

The search committee hiring for this position will be selecting candidates for two positions. If you would like to be considered for both positions, you can submit your application for the Coordinator for Student Life, Student Organizations position. There is no expectation that candidates apply for both positions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Graduate Assistant for Programming. Provide training, leadership, mentoring and evaluation.
  • Responsible for programs including, but not limited to:
    • Tea Time
    • Crafternoon
    • Mental Health Programming initiative
    • De Stress Fest
    • Weeks of Welcome programming (with Associate Director)
    • Back to School Bash
    • SOAR Ceremony Committee Lead
    • Homecoming Committee
    • Madison Leads Conference
    • Creation of additional Union Programming
  • Be Involved (Campus Groups) expert and liaison.
  • Advise Omicron Delta Kappa.
  • Manage Explore Madison program.
  • Pursue and maintain collaborative efforts to support programming across the University.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of ongoing assessment efforts.
  • Assist in the creation of zero-based budget for Student Activities and Involvement.
  • Participate in Student Life departmental meetings. Serve on appropriate committees within the department and division.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and meeting the diverse needs of a college student population.
  • Experience advising and/or supervising students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student involvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory.
  • Ability to create, implement, and evaluate student-centered programs.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment and work across organizational lines.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as a team member.
