Associate Dean for Academics (Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College)

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor and Associate Dean for Academics in the Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College beginning July 2023.  Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience.

 

The Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College has recently experienced rapid growth in its student population. The Associate Dean for Academics will be a key member of the KSU Journey Honors College leadership team as we continue to build honors opportunities for students and continue the trend of growth. The Associate Dean advances the academic mission of KSU Journey Honors College. 

 

In collaboration with the Dean, the Associate Dean helps guide the honors faculty and staff in the implementation of honors academic programs and pathways, honors course staffing, and honors capstone experiences. The Associate Dean also supports and oversees national and international fellowship advising, a service the college provides for all Kennesaw State University students.

 

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentoring and supervising honors faculty.
  • Overseeing the implementation of honors curricular and co-curricular offerings.
  • Supporting the dean’s efforts to institutionalize honors throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
  • Building capacity, expectations, and processes to support honors capstones.
  • Working closely with the program managers to ensure that all student support functions (recruitment, advising, etc.) are in line with the academic mission of the college.
  • Collaborating with the Dean in support of strategic planning, faculty and staff development, enrollment management, finances and budgeting, and facilities management.
  • May assist in advising students on undergraduate scholarly and creative activities or National and International Scholarships and Fellowships.
  • May teach honors courses.
  • Representing the college and serving as the Dean designee as needed.

 

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

 

 

Required Qualifications Include

  • Ph.D., or its foreign equivalent, and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor in one of the University’s academic departments or schools.
  • A record of progressive academic leadership experience (3-5 years).
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate education.

 

Preferred Qualifications Include

  • Experience in Honors Education (strongly preferred).
  • Administrative and leadership experience in honors (strongly preferred).
  • Record of mentorship or direction of undergraduate research and creative activities, internships, study abroad, and/or community-based learning.
  • Experience with National and International Scholarship and Fellowship advising.
  • Experience fostering collaborations across departments, colleges, and/or institutions.
  • Experience working with multi-cultural populations and promoting diversity and inclusive excellence.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and mentor faculty and staff
  • Experience with assessment and student success initiatives.
  • Curriculum development and implementation.
