Responsibilities include:

  • Create, interview and hire student work positions (approximately 18-30 students per semester) for the Biology Department
  • Supervise all Biology Department student workers to include training and scheduling.
  • Facilitate procurement and maintenance of supplies and equipment
  • Oversee the budget on behalf of the Biology Department
  • Perform administrative duties as needed such as departmental record keeping, reviewing Seminar Summary Forms, and reserving Biology Labs for external uses (OT,ASL, Science Museum, Summer Camps)
  • Serve as the Biology Department Representative at safety, facilities and HR meetings
  • Maintain and facilitate the use of departmental computers and printers
  • Assist on student-initiated projects such as campus green roof, campus honey bees, community gardens, and bee campus.
  • Assist with the Biology Department social media accounts
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students while setting departmental standards that must be adhered to
  • Mentor and navigate through difficult scenarios with student employees
  • Encourage student engagement and help students organize and advocate for projects that impact community

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (GED)
  • Experience with diverse fields within Biology
  • Experience in where to locate, order and operate supplies relevant to conducting labs for those fields.
  • Exposure to and understanding ofOSHAsafety standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Photoshop, GoPro and other office software

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Experience supervising and leading teams
