The Agricultural Research and Development Program in the College of Engineering, Science, Technology and Agriculture ( CESTA ) at Central State University is looking for a Research Scientist to work in Agriculture & Natural Resources Information and Management ( ANRIM ) lab. The candidate will be engaged in projects related to developing innovative soil and water management strategies to achieve the twin goal of improved agricultural productivity and enhanced environmental stewardship in Ohio. More specifically, the candidate will be applying stable isotope (both traditional and non-traditional isotope) geochemistry to identify agricultural best management practices to improve soil and water conservation in the region and in the state. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently and cooperatively with researchers and other stakeholders to achieve the goals of the assigned projects. The candidate is expected to work with the supervisor to procure further research funding from federal, state and private funding sources for the continuation of the research program. The research scientist is also expected to supervise undergraduate researchers, research technician engaged in the research in ANRIM lab. The candidate may also be asked to assist the supervising faculty in teaching undergraduate courses. The candidate must be skillful in research design, data collection and data analysis in science related projects. The position involves travel to research sites for data collection, to meet research partners and stakeholders. The research scientist is expected to take the lead on the dissemination of research findings to end users through workshops, field days, conferences, and publications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Applying stable isotope (traditional) geochemistry to understand plant nutrient dynamics in soil and agricultural run off at varying spatial scales.
• Applying stable isotope (both traditional and non-traditional) fractionation studies to identify impacts to soil and water resources resulting from varied agricultural and landscape management practices and climate change.
• Using isotope geochemistry for tracer studies in agricultural landscapes.
• Mapping agricultural isoscapes using field-based sampling and geodatabases
• Laboratory soil, water and plant tissue analysis
• Working with freely available national geodatabases
• Field data collection (Crop, Soil and Water)
• Mentoring and advising undergraduate students
• Supervising research staff in ANRIM lab
• Organizing and presenting workshops to disseminate the research findings
• Presentations and seminars
• Publications and grant writing
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
• Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or related disciplines with isotope related PhD dissertation work.
• A minimum of three years of post-doctoral research work in isotope geochemistry
• Demonstrated skill in isotope fractionation, and in the use of analytical instrumentation including ICP -MS and MC- ICP -MS
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in the areas of isotope geochemistry
• Skillful in elemental purification for isotope analysis Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :
• Involvement in professional associations or organizations.
• Demonstrated skill in securing grants or strong potential to secure extramural funding in same areas
