Job Summary/Basic Function

This faculty member teaches Certified Medical Assistant classes.

Minimum Qualifications

- Minimum of an Associate of Applied Science ( AAS ) degree
- At least 3 years’ experience in the delivery of care in an ambulatory setting.
- Have academic training and preparation related to medical assistant role; at least equivalent to that of program graduates.
- Must be knowledgeable in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in assigned course content.
-Must be effective in teaching assigned subjects, and capable through academic preparation, training, and experience to teach assigned courses.
- Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success.
- Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy
- Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication

Preferred Qualifications

- Holds a current Medical Assistant Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in the healthcare field
- BLS Certified

Instruct Medical Assistant courses online and/or on campus. Opportunities may be available to teach other courses as qualified and needed.

Job Duty

Facilitate student learning through the following activities:
- Assist the Program Director with the development of curricula, courses, syllabi, and specifications for textbooks, materials, laboratory and technical resources.
- Commit to student success, retention and assessment of student progress and learning
- Recognize and respond to different student learning needs and respect diversity in the classroom
- Develop and use supplementary learning materials and resources
- Use best practices in the teaching and learning process
- Provide academic advising
- Collaborate with other teaching faculty, staff and administration to ensure that all Medical Assistant students receive instruction and supervision that promotes attainment of learning outcomes in compliance with the AAMA requirements.
- Conduct course and institutional assessment of student learning.
- Provide supervision of and provide frequent assessment of the students’ progress in achieving acceptable program requirements.
- Maintain electronic student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Adhere to the ethical standards of the college, the State of Michigan, the Higher Learning Commission, FERPA and other education regulations, and the profession.
- Provide for a safe and orderly learning environment
- Stay abreast of developments in course subject matter and teaching by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development opportunities.
- Communicate with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders in a professional manner through the use of telephone, email, videoconferencing, fax, mail, and/or face-to-face communication.
- Work with lab assistants, learning assistants, or student workers as needed.
- Participate in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination and development, textbook selection, program revision, online teaching certification, and outcome assessment.
