Franklin University Switzerland is a non-profit private university located in Lugano, accredited in both the USA and Switzerland to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees. Its intensely cross-cultural and multinational learning and living environment inspires students to engage the world.  Franklin’s undergraduate majors, graduate programs and pre-professional programs in the social sciences, natural sciences and the humanities are informed by the liberal arts and sciences.

Franklin University Switzerland seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Psychology. The position is full-time, renewable, and with a clear promotion ladder. The position begins in August 2023 (pending funding). The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. at the time of hire. Priority will be given to scholars with expertise in one (or more) of the following areas: cognitive/emotional psychology, biological psychology, or neuropsychology. Ideally the candidate would also have interest or previous experience in positive psychology or areas of wellness.

Franklin’s program in psychology is young, yet popular among students. The successful candidate should have the potential for dynamic leadership, demonstrating willingness to help Franklin grow the current program and assist with the formulation of future graduate programs in psychology (Master’s or Ph.D.).  They should also be able to offer courses in a variety of areas within psychology, including in their area of expertise and ideally in research methods (https://www.fus.edu/academics/undergraduate-programs/majors/psychology).

A normal course load at Franklin is six (3 credit or 6 ECTS) courses per academic year, including a course with an Academic Travel component, one of Franklin’s signature experiences.  Other job expectations include advising pre-major and psychology students and maintaining an active research program.

Consistent with the mission of the University, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in both undergraduate teaching and scholarship, have an active research agenda, and contribute to the Academic Travel program (https://www.fus.edu/academics/academic-travel), a fundamental part of Franklin’s international, interdisciplinary, intercultural curriculum. Ideally, candidates will be conversant in one of the official languages of Switzerland and have an interest in interdisciplinary research and teaching. Experience with Swiss/EU funded projects is a plus.

To apply, please submit to psysearch@fus.edu, in a single PDF document:

  • a letter of application,
  • CV with names and contact information for three references,
  • a writing sample,
  • a statement of teaching philosophy, and;

Franklin University Switzerland is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we welcome and encourage applications from racialized persons/visible minorities, women, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as from all qualified candidates with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse international communities. For further information, please see www.fus.edu.

Review of applications will begin November 30th, 2022 and continue on a rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via videoconferencing. Finalists will be invited to campus for in-person interviews.
