Senior Position
Columbia University in the City of New York: Arts and Sciences Core - Academic: Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies
Description
The African American and African Diaspora Studies Department (AAADS) invites applications and nominations for a distinguished scholar to fill a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the interdisciplinary area of Black Geographies.
Black Geographies considers the legacies of transatlantic slavery, colonialism, and race/racism in the production of unequal spaces at once urban and rural, diasporic and local, and includes, but is not limited to attention to questions of carceral enclosure (the school, the prison, and the ghetto), climate, environment, and the social (and spatial) determinants of health. We encourage scholars from diverse inter/disciplinary fields to apply, including but not limited to, those trained formally in Geography, as we are interested in scholars whose work engages central questions in the field of Black Studies. In addition to having a distinguished record of research and teaching, successful candidates will be expected to have and maintain a strong research agenda, demonstrate a commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching, and participate in the building of our department.
Start date: July 1, 2023
