Department Summary

College of Design Student Services provides comprehensive support for student success, including academic and career advising, scholarship coaching, and access to alumni and professionals for career development opportunities through events, mentoring, and on-site visits. Services for students include career advising; undergraduate, general education academic advising; scholarship advising and administration; career-preparation classes; and engagement events to connect students with the professional world. The office is led by the Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations, and is staffed by a mixture of faculty, administrative, advising, and student employees.
Position Summary

The college of design seeks a motivated and engaged coordinator that takes initiative with excellent communication skills to organize new and existing events and programs in the College of Design. The Coordinator of Student and Alumni Relations provides professional development support to students and leads events and strategies to engage our alumni and the professional community with College of Design students; assists in the coordination of internship placement in professional firms and organizations; plans and implements career and recruitment fairs, alumni networking and engagement events, and college-wide signature events; works closely with UO Alumni Association and the College of Design Office of Development to collect and record alumni data, including engagement with UO and professional placement; provides scholarship search and application strategies to students; administers the general College of Design scholarships and coordinates the reviewing committee; and works with College of Design departments and programs to support the scholarship process.

Program areas include administrative support and development of the annual Signature events; Art & Design Symposium, Recruitment Fair and Portland Career Symposium, alumni networking events and engagement activities; management of donor and sponsorship acknowledgement processes, monitoring of endowed funds; coordination of College level scholarships including the Travel Awards; and development and implementation of stewardship plans and strategies that build strong donor relationships for Student services.

The Coordinator of Student and Alumni Career Services acts as a liaison between external constituents, professionals, alumni, potential sponsors, and College of Design academic departments and the Student Services office. The position works directly with the Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations to identify new opportunities to cultivate external and alumni relationships to serve student services.

This position receives a variety of assignments of moderate to high complexity that call for initiative, judgment, organization, and excellent oral and written communication skills. These assignments typically require planning ahead and meeting numerous deadlines.

This full-time position reports to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations with secondary reporting responsibilities to the Director of Donor Relations in the Office of Development.
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years professional experience in university administration, non-profit administration, or business administration.

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours to coordinate and manage events.
  • Ability to be effective in an interdisciplinary team environment and with a variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and business professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, initiative, and ability to make independent decisions.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Professional work experience in higher education.
  • Proficiency with database management systems.
  • Three years of work experience in Alumni and Donor Relations.
