Job Description

The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks an Instructional Assistant Professor of English (9-month non-tenure track position) to begin Spring 2023. Primary duties include: (1) teaching 15 semester credit hours (the equivalent of five courses) per semester of freshmen composition courses and advanced courses in literature; (2) serving on the First Year Writing Program faculty committee as well as other department, college and university committees, and (3) providing service to students. We desire candidates who have worked with diverse student populations and have the ability to teach in areas that complement or strengthen our undergraduate and graduate programs. Research and publications are encouraged but not required to maintain employment. Initial appointment is for three years, and renewal is based on performance and institutional need.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate degree in English preferably with a concentration in Medieval Literature or in a closely related discipline. ABDs will also be considered, but applicants must have earned a doctorate before January 13, 2023. Candidates are required to have prior teaching experience in composition. We prefer teaching experience with bilingual student populations and/or minority students, service experience in First Year Writing Programs, and/or research or teaching experience in literature, especially medieval literature, or the history of the English language.

TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bi-lingual, bi-cultural city with a population of about 250,000 on the U.S./Mexico border. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. For faculty, TAMIU offers competitive salaries and a benefits package covering health insurance and retirement benefits. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.

This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace for a minimum of four days a week.

First review of applications will begin on November 14, 2022. The application will remain open until the position is filled.

Applications must be submitted online at https://www.tamiu.edu/adminis/ohr/employment/.
