Assistant/Associate Professor in Pharmacology/Toxicology

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University is expanding its Pharmacology and Toxicology program. We invite applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track/Tenured faculty position with broad interdisciplinary expertise applicable to any area of Pharmacology or Toxicology that complements or supplements existing strengths in the school.

About the School:

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (https://newcollege.asu.edu/smns ) at Arizona State University,  is an interdisciplinary mathematical and natural sciences unit that offers bachelor’s degrees in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biology, Environmental Science, Applied Computing, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Forensic Science, Computational Forensics, Biotechnology and Bioenterprise, and a master’s degree in Biological Data Science. Faculty collaborate across disciplines within the School and throughout ASU. Mentoring doctoral students is possible through university-wide graduate programs. Successful candidates are expected to establish a vigorous, externally-funded program of research; to deliver quality undergraduate and graduate instruction in Pharmacology/Toxicology, and in topics related to a candidate’s specialized area of expertise; and to contribute service to the university and  the profession. Essential Functions of the Position:

• Teach both general and specialized courses related to Pharmacology and Toxicology.
• Establish a vigorous, externally-funded program of research in which undergraduate students can participate. Conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research among a rapidly growing community of tenured and tenure-track faculty;
• Provide impactful education through undergraduate research and innovative programmatic development, and cultural-responsive teaching and mentoring practices;

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. by the time of appointment in Pharmacology; Toxicology (environmental or human health); Biology; Biochemistry; Chemistry; Genetics; Pharmacogenomics; Epidemiology; Bioengineering; Applied Math, Statistics of Computing with a focus on Pharmacology or Toxicology; or another discipline germane to Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Desired Qualifications:  

• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and mentoring students in research in areas applicable to Pharmacology/Toxicology.
• Evidence of college/university teaching and course development experience.
• Interest to act as a liaison with PharmD and other local professional programs.
• Demonstrated contributions to school/professional service.
• Interest to develop new courses and curricula for the Pharmacology/Toxicology program.
• Interest in establishing interdisciplinary research programs.
• Record of publications in areas applicable to Pharmacology/Toxicology commensurate with candidate’s current rank where recent Ph.D. graduate candidates may have few, if any, submitted grants.
• Record of grant submission (including proposals funded, submitted, and/or unfunded) in areas applicable to Pharmacology/Toxicology commensurate with candidate’s current rank.
