The Director of Employment directs all activities related to campus employment practices and reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The position requires deep knowledge of employment practices, strong relationship-building skills, and strong critical thinking. This position works closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer to develop and provide strategic, proactive, and metric-driven leadership for an expanded employment team to support the University’s strategic priorities through employment practices. Provides consultation and support for ensuring compliance with all Equal Employment Opportunity requirements and supporting the University’s diversity and affirmative action goals.

Leadership/Supervision:
  • This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the employment team, currently 5 employees: 3 Talent Acquisition Specialists, Temporary Employment Specialists, and an Onboarding Specialist.
  • Manages all supervisory responsibilities including position management, recruitment, selection, on-boarding, training, work scheduling, discipline, and performance evaluation for staff in the employment unit.
  • Must apply a variety of leadership skills to coach and direct support staff.
  • Responsible for timely and regular feedback to direct reports, completing updates to position descriptions, work plans, and annual performance reviews.
  • Responsible for documenting, educating, and enforcing procedures and policies implemented or administered by the staff employment team.
  • Instrumental in developing processes, setting individual and group goals, identifying, and constructively resolving potential conflicts and identifying and implementing solutions.
  • Provides supportive leadership to maintain a positive work environment for staff.
Program Management:
  • Develops recruiting, employment, and onboarding strategies that support employment and diversity goals.
  • Responsible for supervising, directing, training and developing the staff employment and new employee records management units and collaborating with campus partners to ensure quality recruitment, retention and selection practices and strategies are followed.
  • Responsible for the data integrity and accuracy of the employee records in Banner HR.
  • Must have working knowledge of data entry processes for all new employee record transactions into Banner for payroll purposes to ensure data accuracy and timely payment of all university permanent and temporary employees.
  • Ability to address complex or sensitive issues regarding SHRA Salary Administration for new hire and the University’s hiring practices; apply understanding of employment functions to complete regular reviews of processes to ensure protocols are met and operating within federal and state laws and university’s policies and guidelines.
  • Provides in-depth understanding, analysis, and application of Pay Factors by serving as the SHRA Salary Administrator for new hires, promotions, and reassignments, and in-depth understanding and application of compliance issues including Internal Priority Considerations; Veteran’s Preference, and Reduction-In-Force ( RIF ). Position manages onboarding and background check programs.
  • Works closely with campus partners to solve problems and overcome challenges encountered in the recruitment and selection processes.
Compliance:
  • Responsible for managing and updating policies and procedures to remain in compliance with federal and state laws and University policies.
  • Collaborates with Academic Affairs, Benefits, Classification and Compensation, Workers Compensation, Payroll, Tax Office, ITS, and Student Employment units to verify and complete pay actions and employment records within the Banner System.
  • Coordinates with division/department business leaders to define policies, procedures and acceptable practices in regard to the hiring of employees and set up of employment records.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of the recruitment, selection, hiring, and compliance in employment functions for EHRA Non-Faculty, SHRA, and temporary positions; as well as support to Academic Affairs with compliance analysis and hiring of Faculty and Waivers.
HR Strategic Partner:
  • Advocates for a mutually beneficial course of action in controversial or precedent-setting situations.
  • Participates in several cross functional teams to represent the Office of Human Resources and provide consulting on employment laws.
  • Cultivates business relationships on and off-campus to build collaborative and strategic partnerships with campus hiring officials.
  • Uses business partnerships to anticipate federal, state and university changes and address concerns and challenges with the hiring and potential reorganization and organizational design of departments and existing personnel.
  • Build strong and effective partnerships across the university by providing excellent consulting and support services for the recruitment, selection and onboarding of faculty, staff, and temporary employees.
Suggested Salary Range $76,320 - $107,605 Physical Demands of Position
