The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems (CIS). The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, which will include the development and delivery of courses in programming in our CIS department. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced courses in CIS. The position can be located at either our Augusta or Bangor location.

UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning; committed to effective use of technology including distance learning; involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment; and to provide service to the community, College, and University. 

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using modalities including in-person, hyflex, video conferencing, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach. The duties of the position may also include supporting the university's early college programming.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Doctorate in computer information systems, or a closely related field. Doctoral candidate's with a master's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a closely related field may be considered. Completion of the doctorate is required for the awarding of tenure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to teach at both the Augusta and Bangor campuses and online


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in the following areas of programming:
    • Visual Basic, Java (including mobile applications), Python, C#, and current Web programming technologies (JavaScript and PHP)
    • Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Computer game design, and/or candidates with a data science background
  • Experience teaching that includes the use of new technologies and delivery systems
  • Experience teaching students at a distance
  • Experience with Early College programs
