Position Summary

The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Professor and Director of the Engineering Education Transformations Institute. This position will be an academic (9-month), tenured appointment at the Professor level, starting on August 1, 2023, and will have the opportunity to supplement salary during the summer.

As leader of the Engineering Education Transformations Institute, the Director will:
  1. Work with a dynamic team of tenure-track and professional-track faculty to shape, advance, and uphold EETI’s mission, vision, and values as a uniquely positioned engineering education center.
  2. Direct EETI activities in consultation with faculty and other EETI leadership.
  3. Develop collaborative partnerships with organizations and individuals across the college and UGA campus to aid EETI in achieving its goals.
  4. Develop capacity for envisioning and garnering funding for large-scale engineering education initiatives with potential for college-wide and national impact.
  5. Strategically cultivate EETI and engineering education research efforts through expansion of the graduate program and the research portfolio, thus enhancing EETI’s reputation and impact in the national and international engineering education community.
  6. Liaise between EETI and the school and college leadership. Advocate for continued investment in the growth of both the research and educational development aspects of EETI’s mission. Provide periodic reports on EETI activities to college and university leadership and, when necessary, to external stakeholders.
  7. Strategize effective uses for newly implemented, state-of-the-art engineering education research and collaboration facilities.


Significant investments in infrastructure have resulted in an expansion of laboratory facilities for research and scholarship as well as new classrooms and instructional labs. Our main instructional facility has undergone a complete renovation to create flexible classrooms that enable a range of teaching modalities and interdisciplinary laboratory instruction. The common instructional facilities also foster the cultivation and intermingling of diverse perspectives, as they allow faculty, staff, and students to interact and collaborate in a single facility.

The Engineering Education Transformations Institute ( EETI ) at UGA is a cross-cutting research institute that supports research and development in engineering education and builds capacity among faculty to develop, use, and examine effective and innovative pedagogical techniques. EETI is uniquely positioned within the College of Engineering and thus offers exceptional opportunities for innovative, empirically grounded educational research that is rooted in educational practice and has a direct impact on students, faculty, and curricula. The Engineering Education Transformations Institute ( EETI ) is building capacity for engineering education research and innovation through creative programs that cultivate community and shared learning experiences for faculty, students, and staff across the College of Engineering’s four schools. Additionally, EETI offers the state of Georgia’s first and only engineering education Ph.D. program, which currently houses seven graduate students, four tenure-track engineering education faculty members, and one professional-track faculty member. Through blending these two areas of programming, EETI comprises a unique engineering education center whose work creates national impact through the creation and mobilization of local educational capacity. Additional Requirements

Candidates considered for the position must have qualifications and academic credentials that are commensurate with the promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia. These guidelines can be found at the College of Engineering Criteria for Promotion and Tenure.

A strong record of research, scholarship, and instruction that is commensurate with appointment as a tenured, full professor and aligned with the areas of research and scholarship associated with this position.

For tenure on appointment, Professor candidates must have been already tenured at a prior institution and bring a demonstrable national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • At least 1 year of experience cultivating and managing an engineering graduate program;
  • At least 1 year of experience leading teams of faculty in a way that promotes both the development of programs/initiatives and the professional growth of team members; and
  • At least 1 year of experience liaising with college and university leaders on a variety of issues, including the acquisition of resources, management of budgets, communication of impacts, and advocacy for initiatives.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Ability to garner substantial extramural resources for collaborative engineering education projects or initiatives;
  • Knowledge of current and pressing issues in engineering education;
  • Skills in cultivating collaborative, creative, and productive teams that center diverse voices and perspectives on interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses critical societal challenges;
  • Familiarity with graduate education and faculty affairs in the context of a research-intensive public university; and
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through scholarship, teaching, and/or service endeavors.
