    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Extension Life and Well Being Coach will provide leadership for educational programs lower income families in the area of resource management, budgeting, estate planning, soft skills, resumes and other area that improve the health and well being of an individual.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    The Extension Life and Well Being Coach will provide leadership for educational programs for lower income families in the area of basic life skills that will help the individual obtain employment, earn promotions and manage the resources they currently have to improve their life and those they are working to support.

    The position responsibilities include:

  1. Utilize and/or develop advisory groups, and committees to facilitate community involvement in programming;
  2. Conduct signature programs in the area;
  3. Serve as a resource to the community through answering related consumer questions and serve as a conduit to additional programing and information available at Kentucky State University;
  4. Work in collaboration to share community programs supporting issues involving leadership development, community involvement, local government, the Cabinet of Health and Family Services, community services and other forms of community economic development.


This position will be housed in Bowling Green and will be a member of the off-campus Extension staff of Kentucky State University as part of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System and will work closely with the Extension Specialist for educational program support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide leadership to an educational process where youth and adults learn basic life skills
  • Collaborate with KSU 4-H Youth Development Agents to plan and execute programs for youth.
  • Determine unit program needs by monitoring trends and issues, and conducting unit assessments involving the unit Advisory Committee and other leadership committees.
  • Network and build coalitions with other agencies, organizations and institutions to address the complex youth and family issues.
  • Develop and deliver objective and research-based educational programs to meet the needs of diverse audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources needed.
  • Organize and maintain a multi-level system of recognition and incentives for youth and volunteers in the program on an annual basis.
  • Complete various Cooperative Extension reports (KERS, Quarterly Report, Plans of work, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
OTHER DUTIES : The position will conduct other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. in Family and Consumer Science, Social Work, Sociology, Nutrition, or related degree area required. M.S. in related field with 1 to 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified preferred.

Licensing and Certifications: None.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating participatory Extension or non-formal education programs.
  • Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine program priorities.
  • Knowledge of child and human development.
  • Knowledge and willingness of adult involvement and working relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in educational technologies and their appropriate use in the development and delivery of educational programs.
  • Program marketing skills.
  • Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage volunteers in program development and delivery.
  • Will need a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to drive a small delivery truck (no special license required) or truck and trailer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to travel, primarily in-state (30%).
  • Occasionally may need to move light equipment and carry supplies, publications, and needed equipment for demonstration and training programs.
  • Occasional outdoor work
