Job Summary:

The lecturer position will teach one section of CNSR SCI 635: Estate Planning for Financial Planners during the Spring 2023 semester within the Department of Consumer Science.

This course prepares students to provide analysis from a financial planner's perspective of the process of planning the accumulation, conservation, and distribution of an estate, in the manner that most effectively and efficiently accomplishes an individual's personal tax and non-tax objectives.

The lecturer will teach students how to:
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the content found within the Estate Planning for Financial Planners curriculum and effectively apply and integrate this information in the formulation of an estate plan for sample clients.
- Effectively communicate the estate plan, including information based on research, peer, colleague or simulated client interaction and/or results emanating from synthesis of material.
- Collect all necessary and relevant qualitative and quantitative information required to develop an estate plan.
- Analyze personal financial situations, evaluating clients' objectives, needs, and values to develop an appropriate strategy within their estate plan.
- Demonstrate logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to problems found with client situations
- Evaluate the impact of economic, political, and regulatory issues with regard to the estate plan.
- Apply the CFP Board Financial Planning Practice Standards to the financial planning process as it applies to estate planning.

It is expected that this course will be taught in an in-person format during the spring of 2023, with the potential to continue teaching related courses in the Department of Consumer Science in the future.

The course will be taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 - 9:15am.

Responsibilities:

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 80% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 5% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 15% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

- At least two years of successful teaching experience at the college level is preferred

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

CONSUMER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Consumer Science develops students able to apply social science theories to understanding household and consumer interactions within the marketplace and the public sector. Students undertake research on consumer decision-making affecting the social and economic well-being of individuals and families. This is a multi-disciplinary degree program. Activities of the department are designed to foster development of a fair marketplace that enhances the interests and well-being of consumers, families and communities. The Department is home to a Ph.D. program in Consumer Behavior & Family Economics and undergraduate majors in Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies and Personal Finance. It is also the administrative home for two campus-wide centers: the Kohl's Center for Retailing Excellence and Center for Financial Security.

KOHL'S CENTER FOR RETAILING (KCR): Founded by a general endowment from Kohl's Department Store, the KCR's mission is to create awareness and excitement about the retailing industry at UW-Madison.
