Faculty Position in International Relations or Regional Studies effective from August 2022

 

Position Summary

KIMEP University College of Social Sciences, Department of International Relations & Regional Studies, invites applications for a faculty position (Assistant/Associate/ Full Professor rank) in the International Relations area.

KIMEP University offers its faculty members one-year contracts, renewable by mutual agreement. The starting date for this position is 15 August or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. For this position, preference will be given to candidates who show an interest in serving as director of the China and Central Asia Studies Center and whose profile fits that role.

The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs and teaches academic and theoretic courses in International Relation. It seeks to hire a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice in the field of International Relations and Politics. The China and Central Asia Studies Center has been founded in 2017. It employs one staff coordinator and organizes public lectures and online lectures, liaises with partner universities, hosts visiting researchers and, generally, facilitates research in China-Central Asia relations. The director of the center is entitled to a reduced teaching load. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Expertise is desired in at least two of the following areas of International Relations: Chinese Domestic and Geo-Politics, Chinese Economic Policy, The Economy and Geo-Politics of East Asia, Central Asia, Political Economy and Security Studies. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in International Relations, Political Science, Regional Studies or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university.  Applicants should be able to teach in English.

Applicants for position should have at least 3-5 years of teaching experiences in reputable universities and extensive professional experience in the field of major areas. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with remote or online course design and teaching is an added benefit.

 

The College of Social Sciences

The College of Social Science has a faculty of 20 full-time and ten part-time faculty members and three dedicated administrative staff. The College includes the departments of Media and Communications, Public Administration, International Relations and Economics.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after ­tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

Limited on campus housing is available to rent or help in finding off campus housing. In addition to salary, a benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a subsidy for relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.

The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% Personal Income tax in general) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan.
