The Department of Anthropology and Heritage Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in anthropological archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a broadly trained archaeologist with active field research, preferably in the Americas and a methodological expertise that articulates with Heritage Studies such as spatial analyses, GIS, 3D imaging and visualization to complement existing faculty methodological strengths. The position is broadly conceived to stress the integration of method, theory, and engagement with critical heritage studies, encompassing a research agenda focused on important anthropological issues that transcend sub-fields of the discipline.
In order to be considered, candidates must have an PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field, or a BA or MA in Anthropology or Archaeology with a PhD in a related field by the position start date of July 1, 2023.
The preferred candidate will complement and enhance existing strengths in the Anthropology and Heritage Studies Department; be active in field or laboratory research; and be willing to work to support and/or establish vigorous teaching and research programs involving undergraduates and interdisciplinary graduate students. We seek a candidate with a record of publication; an interest in obtaining external funding who will establish and maintain strong research programs; participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research; and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Within the undergraduate curriculum, we expect this individual to contribute to the teaching of archaeology courses and intersect with course offerings in heritage studies, as well as participate in graduate teaching, as appropriate. This includes introductory Anthropological Archaeology (ANTH 3) and upper division courses including those emphasizing the candidate’s research interests and methodological skills. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
