THE OPPORTUNITY

The Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (www.uab.edu/cellbio) invites applications for the faculty position of Anatomist/Physiologist. This open rank/open tenure-status position will entail teaching medical, dental, optometry, and other health-related students. The selected individual will have a full-time commitment and focus on providing anatomy/physiology education and utilizing approaches that integrate basic science and clinical areas.

CDIB is a basic science department in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. In 2020, CDIB was ranked No. 6 in National Institutes of Health among cell biology departments with over $16M in NIH grant awards. CDIB's research takes place in over 40,000 square feet of newly renovated laboratory space. The faculty in CDIB are highly collaborative and direct robust research and training programs in Ciliopathies, Neurobiology & Neurological Diseases, Developmental Biology, Bioengineering & Regenerative Medicine, Cancer Biology, Immunology and Inflammation, Fundamental Cell Biology, Physiology & Biophysics.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) with preference given to candidates who bring innovative approaches that complement existing expertise within the department. A solid background in clinically/surgically oriented anatomy is a plus. In addition, solid experience in cadaveric dissections of the entire human body is required for concurrent gross anatomy laboratories and future prosections for an anatomist position. This appointment will be made at an academic rank and tenure status, commensurate with the level of professional and educational experience.
