Instructional Designer 3 - (STA011112)



Advise university faculty in the application of complex instructional design principles and educational technology to develop courses. Provides expertise to facilitate instructional initiatives and supervise staff.
  1. Primary subject matter expert and provide consultation and support for faculty and staff.
  2. Direct the work of graduate technology assistants.
  3. Investigate, propose, and participate in decision making for the purchase of new software and technology.
  4. Troubleshoot technical and operational issues of technology-based programs.
  5. Develops and conducts training of faculty on new academic software and technology.
  6. Research and assist faculty in the development of new and innovative teaching experiences.
  7. Present and represent University instructional designers at conferences.
  8. Collaborate with and assist internal and system-wide instructional designers.
  9. Provide leadership in the instructional designer collaborative meetings for the University of Houston System groups.Perform other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Masters and 5 years experience

Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Online Learning Consortium (OLC) certification in online course design and/or delivery.
  • Experience providing instructional design support using Canvas.
  • Experience working in a center for educational development.
  • Experience providing instructional design across modalities (i.e. face-to-face, hybrid and online courses).
  • Experience collaborating with a variety of academic and administrative offices within a college/university.
  • Experience designing learning environments for Blue-Collar/Technical workforce.
Additional Job Posting Information:

The position will support the design and development of instructional, graphical and presentation material for educational programs for enhancing offshore energy sources, energy production and transmission/transportation leading to improved and sustainable economic development of the Gulf of Mexico. The Instructional Designer 3 will d evelop and design courses and curriculum, edit and create online learning materials, design learning activities, assignments, and assessments, create computer-based training (CBT) modules and storyboards, develop instructor’s manuals, rubrics, and other teaching tools, collaborate with subject experts to develop course content, train instructors, students, and employees on learning technologies, write scripts for video and audio content, and work with technical staff to troubleshoot problems reported by users.
