Job Summary

The Department of Psychology at Columbus State University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology. The start date for this position is August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, engaged learning, advising and mentoring students along with an active research and service agenda. Preference will be given to candidates who can expand course offerings related to his or her specializations for the department and engage students using experiential learning strategies. Candidates who have experience with a variety of teaching methods, have knowledge of, or experience working with culturally diverse groups, and have a strong desire to incorporate undergraduate students in their research and/or service activities are preferred.

The Psychology program recently proposed establishing a PsyD doctoral program in clinical psychology. The proposed doctoral program is designed to prepare graduates for licensure as clinical psychologists, with an emphasis on Military and Veterans psychology. The successful candidate will foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, work continuously to improve psychology education, and assist in the development of the PsyD doctoral program.

Normal teaching load is four classes per semester in both introductory and upper-level psychology courses. Courses may be taught during daytime and evening hours, using a variety of modalities such as face-to-face, online, and hybrid.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. with specialization in Developmental Psychology prior to the start date of August 2023.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional expertise in clinical psychology or other applied areas and/or experience with military populations is preferred.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
