Job Description

The Ahmed-Brimah Lab at Syracuse University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join a collaborative research program that applies single cell genomics and bioinformatics to investigate mechanisms of developmental gene regulation in mice and flies. Projects will focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern cellular differentiation, neurogenesis, and gametogenesis using various developmental systems, both in the mouse and Drosophila.

The appointee is expected to be both highly independent and collaborative and will need to significantly contribute to the design of new projects. A key requirement is that the individual have the ability to see intellectually and technically complex projects through to their conclusion, which will involve developing methodological approaches and reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data and results from the projects. Great autonomy and independent decision-making is expected in designing and implementing strategies for achieving research goals. The appointee will write papers for publication based on research, compose project reports; present at seminars and national meetings; and participate in research group meetings that may include oral and/or written brief reports.

Qualifications

• PhD in computational biology, genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, mathematics or related discipline.
• Expert knowledge in bioinformatics and/or computational biology.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Substantial experience with data science and statistical analysis.
• Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience developing algorithms and/or conducting statistical analysis with large datasets, particularly genome-wide assays such as RNA -Seq and ATAC -Seq.
• Strong conceptual and practical background in functional genomics methodologies and techniques.
• Strong proficiency in computer programming (Python and R) and Unix HPC infrastructure.
• Demonstrated excellent research capabilities required to carry out innovative and insightful research.
• Proven record and ability to produce research to a high publication standard.
• Ability and willingness to undertake collaborative research.
• Ability to maintain a safe working and learning environment.
• Ability to achieve project goals within time and budget.
