Shenandoah University’s Office of Admissions is accepting applications for a Transfer Admissions Counselor/Sr. Transfer Admissions Counselor. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

As a key member in all activities necessary to enroll transfer students in the university, the Transfer Admissions Counselor provides expert customer service to all parties - prospective transfer students, SU faculty and staff, and community or four-year college liaisons. The Transfer Counselor serves as a representative of the University, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Shenandoah community and with the public. The counselor will be the “go-to-person” when students or academic departments have questions about an applicant’s status or an admissions process.

With direct supervision from the Director of College Outreach, the Transfer Admissions Counselor will be a fully contributing team member with the transfer admissions staff, Office of Admissions, Division of Recruitment and Marketing, and the Shenandoah University community. The Transfer Admissions Counselor participates in all activities necessary to recruit students to Shenandoah University in order to meet enrollment goals.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Communication with Prospective Students
- Serve as the front-line responder for Transfer Admissions by responding to queries for information about undergraduate programs, the admissions process, transfer credits, and status information via phone, email, text, and in-person visitors.
- Maintains working knowledge of program requirements, developing expertise that allows for prompt, accurate, and comprehensive responses to questions from applicants and partners.
- Manage outgoing communication to applicants regarding status. This includes email responses from a shared email account, telephone responses, and coordinating with the Admissions Operations team to update Communication Flow details and website content.
- Counsel prospective students in-person, by phone, by text, and by email on their application status; the transfer process; the transferability of credits to Shenandoah; university admissions requirements; specific requirements for individual academic programs; and, processes and deadlines for financial aid, academic advising, registration, and housing.

Application File Management
- Process applications and update applicant records in Admissions CRM.
- Ensure all applicants’ admission requirements are met by proactively communicating missing requirements with applicants through various means and reviewing documents to facilitate application completion.
- Make admissions decisions on undergraduate transfer applications by following the guidelines and procedures set forth by University and admissions administration.
- Produce official notification letters for applicants in a timely manner.
- Maintain records relevant to transfer admissions, transcript evaluation, and transfer of credit policies.
- Territory management duties include all facets of application processing from responding to candidate inquiries to completion of requirements for enrollment.

Recruitment Activity
- Responsible for the recruiting and admission of Accelerated Second Nursing students.
- Enthusiastically and professionally represent the university at on and off-campus recruitment events, including, but not limited to Information Sessions, Open Houses, Transfer Counselor Visit events. This may require in-state and out-of-state travel.
- Regularly review research, data, and trends that relate to the recruitment of Accelerated Second Degree Nursing students.
- Prepare and deliver admissions presentations to large and small groups.

Communication with University Personnel
- Develop positive relationships with university offices and personnel. Collaborate with those departments to provide seamless service to prospective students and maintain accurate content in outgoing messages.
- Serve as liaison between prospective graduate students and the appropriate academic departments and personnel.

Student Employee Education
- Train and manage student employees.
- Develop tasks and projects for student employees to maximize their talents and interests.

Senior Counselor Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director and On-Campus Experience Admissions Team to design and implement a transfer student visit experience.
- Coordinate the implementation of targeted recruitment initiatives as assigned.
- Coordinate with the On-Campus Experience team to support and execute Accelerated Second Degree Nursing events.

And other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Experience

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree and experience working in collegiate recruiting, academic advising, counseling, student services, or related experience. In addition, the employee must be able to:
- Preferred: Understand the unique needs of prospective nurses.
- Sr. Counselor: At least one year of experience in an admissions-specific role in higher education.
- Demonstrate strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Easily communicate program information in a succinct, professional manner. Ability to prioritize and manage a diverse array of activities on a daily basis despite multiple interruptions.
- Manage duties in a very busy office with high traffic volume, high call volume, frequent work interruptions, and demanding clientele; handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Display initiative and desire to think beyond the current parameters of the role.
- Operate with autonomy as well as with respect as a member of a high-functioning team.
- Work additional hours to attend and actively participate in admissions events, typically 10-15% of the time.
- Average travel of 50% will be expected. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to pass a driving background check. Adhering to university policies and procedures regarding travel.
- Lift boxes of up to 50 pounds, ability to work in front of a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
