Job Description Summary:
Primarily responsible for teaching, training, and creation of tutorials for the Samuel Merritt University community. Responsible for reference and outreach services, collection development, and selection and integration of electronic resources within the curriculum and research arenas. Responsible for promoting curriculum-integrated use of high-quality open educational resources pertinent to health sciences instruction. Works with the Director in support of library strategic planning and participates in divisional and university-wide planning efforts. Coordinates with the Director to create, prioritize and implement Library goals and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Training
- * Collaborates with departmental staff in creating training and
teaching materials for departmental services and resources
- * Evaluates and utilizes appropriate software and workshops for
professional development opportunities for staff in order to
maintain and develop teaching and training skills
- *Develops, manages, and administers information literacy
tutorial to incoming students ]
- *Creates informa tional materials pertaining to L ibrary
resources and services, including instructional materials, and
updates these as needed
- *Provides specialized reference and referral services,
including database searches for students, faculty, alumni, hospital
staff and the public.
- Supports any/all related department efforts and initiatives as
requested, such as marketing/outreach
- * Participates in divisional and University-affiliated
committees
- *Uses specialized software to create new content and learning
tutorials designed to increase information literacy
- *Evaluates and participates in the selection of print and
electronic information sources in support of all programs, as well
as standing orders and general reference materials
- * Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and current trends in
higher education and their impact on academic libraries
- Other duties as assigned
- * Ability to deal with ambiguity
- Knowledge of health science literature and other information
sources
- Broad understanding of trends in educational technology
- Ability to evaluate quality of information resources
- Experience in teaching people of diverse backgrounds and skill
levels
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with
colleagues, students, faculty, staff and health care
professionals
- Ability to evaluate, adapt and use technology in a rapidly
changing environment
- Ability to manipulate software programs and databases so as to
create effective documents, tables, graphs, bibliographies, and
instructional materials
- Ability to evaluate and troubleshoot mobile device hardware and
software
- Must be comfortable teaching small and large groups
- MLS from an ALA accredited program
- Three years experience in an academic or health science
library
