Stetson University seeks a collaborative and dynamic Systems and Digital Initiatives Librarian/Specialist for a full-time appointment either as a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or as a non-tenure-track faculty member with the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. The ideal candidate understands integrated library systems and platforms, a wide variety of technologies and software packages, and user information retrieval behavior. With the Associate Dean of the Library and the Director of Public Services, this new position will be responsible for the development and implementation of planning and directing library systems improvements and upgrades that will enhance the end-user’s library experience. 

Qualifications:  

Tenure-track Assistant Professor: Master of Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) is required, with experience in integrated library systems and web-based discovery systems. Second Master’s degree preferred.  All Stetson librarians are expected to contribute to general reference and research services and function well as a member of a collaborative team.  The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in systems implementation and maintenance including trends in electronic resource management; knowledge of current and emerging digital technology trends in higher education and/or academic libraries; effective communication; interpersonal, organizational, analytical and assessment skills; the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines; and the ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment. In addition, the successful tenure-track candidate should have the potential to engage in publication and professional service to meet University tenure and promotion requirements.

 

Non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice: Master’s degree in a technology-related field such as computer science and experience in information management systems is required. Experience with library information systems is preferred.  All Stetson library faculty are expected to contribute to general reference and research services and function well as a member of a collaborative team. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in systems implementation and maintenance including trends in electronic resource management; knowledge of current and emerging digital technology trends in higher education and/or academic libraries; effective communication; interpersonal, organizational, and analytical and assessment skills; ability to manage projects and meet deadlines; and the ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment. In addition, the successful non-tenure-track candidate should have the demonstrated ability or potential to engage in University service activities.

Responsibilities: 

This position reports to the Associate Dean of the Library.  The Systems and Digital Initiatives Librarian will be expected to give special attention to the following:

  • Provide technical expertise, day-to-day administration, and broad support for traditional and emerging library software solutions and standards.
  • Manage and support library management systems, platforms, and software.
  • Manage and support ContentDM or other digital repository systems.
  • Support EZproxy or other remote access management system.
  • Be a member of the library’s web services team to support the library’s web presence.
  • Recommend hardware and software to support library services and initiatives and manage installation and maintenance.
  • Use working knowledge of database technologies to store, manipulate, and query structured data.
  • Use programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python to enhance information retrieval.

 

The duPont-Ball Library:

The duPont-Ball Library (http://stetson.edu/library) has a collection of approximately 245,000 print volumes and large collections of electronic journals, databases, and e-books, as well as a collection of scores and recordings in support of the School of Music. The library staff includes 8 library faculty members and 13 support staff.  The library is a member of LYRASIS and uses OCLC’s WMS system. The ongoing library fundraising program has resulted in library endowments totaling almost $5 million.  Librarians are tenure-track faculty members who hold leadership positions on campus committees and are actively engaged in scholarly activities, professional organizations and service.

DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.

Salary:  Salary is competitive.
