N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transfer Admissions & Engagement is in the division of Enrollment Management. The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management is to strategically plan, implement, and assess services and programs which facilitate student preparation for college, recruitment, enrollment, and graduation.

The mission of Transfer Admissions & Engagement ( TAE ) is to recruit a strong group of transfer students who will be successful in their pursuit of an undergraduate degree. TAE will also provide main campus, online, and off-campus site-based prospective and admitted transfer students with the most accurate information as it relates to transferability of credit and will assist with the seamless transition to Appalachian. Additionally, TAE will coordinate programming and services intended to help students integrate into the Appalachian community and improve retention.

The Transfer Recruitment Specialist is a member of the transfer enrollment team who will provide pre-enrollment admissions and advising services and guidance to prospective and admitted students to ensure that enrollment steps are met, and coursework and credits are appropriate and applicable to the student’s major and/or Appalachian’s General Education Program. This position will function as a member of the recruitment team.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Advise prospective and admitted students (transfer, online, early college, or dual enrollment) that visit or call TAE regarding prior college coursework, admission requirements and processes, and the transition process to Appalachian. Be knowledgeable of other offices and their services to refer students when appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary walk-in pre-transfer advisor/admission counselor for Transfer Admissions & Engagement (in-person and over the phone). Meet with students and their families. Answer phone calls, texts, emails, and video chats when students are not able to visit the main campus.
  • Present recruitment and transitional information (in-person and virtually) at Campus Tour Presentations, Transfer Information Sessions, Admitted Student Sessions, ASO Information Sessions, Open Houses, and other venues.
  • Assist students (and families) in any way possible as they move through the recruitment cycle.
  • Set up department visits with academic departments for prospective students to learn more about their intended majors.
  • Serve as a resource to the Transfer Admissions & Engagement & First Year Admissions call centers to answer phone calls, general texts, and email questions that the call centers cannot answer. Answer basic email and text questions to clear the queue more quickly.
  • Be knowledgeable of first-year admissions requirements to be able to answer questions when needed.
  • Understand and articulate accurately the CAA & UAA initiatives and articulation agreements, credit equivalency database, transfer guides, Appalachian majors/minors, and General Education requirements.
  • Enter and maintain accurate and timely notes into Slate, including each interaction with students.
  • Answer “Ask a Transfer Counselor” questions in ZeeMee.
  • Provide support to Transfer Admissions & Engagement recruitment team members as needed, including assisting with updating Transfer Guides each summer.
  • Serve on TRANSmission team committees and help plan and implement transfer recruitment/transition events.
  • Support Enrollment Management by working events like Open House, Commencement, etc.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
