Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Career & Technical Education, or closely related area; ABD considered with completion by start date.
  • Ability to teach Career & Technical Education courses in the undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs, as well as the undergraduate Workforce Leadership and Development areas.
  • Experience with online teaching and learning and strong computer skills required.
  • Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure in one of the CTE areas required.
  • P-12 teaching experience required.
  • Evidence of scholarly potential required.
  • Commitment to working in a community of practice, to a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning, working in a multi-disciplinary team, and to working with diverse populations.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
  • Established record of scholarship/creative activity.
  • Established record of leadership.
  • Two years CTE teaching experience, grades 6-12.
  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Workforce or business-related experience.
License/Certification Required

Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure in one of the CTE areas required.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) Program at Appalachian State University is comprised of seven areas of concentration, including six CTE teaching licensure concentrations and the innovative Workforce Leadership & Development (non-teaching) concentration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Developing and teaching face-to-face and online courses in Career & Technical Education in the undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs, and supervision of internships.
  • Developing and teaching online undergraduate courses in Workforce Development, Leadership, and Planning as required.
  • Engagement in program, department, college, and professional service.
  • Engagement in scholarly activity, including peer reviewed publications and grants.
  • Advising undergraduate and graduate students as required.
  • Actively engage in program marketing and recruitment.
