Professional Tutor - Writing



The Professional Writing Tutor is responsible for one-on-one and small group instruction with students. The individual will help maintain student records, as well as cumulative records on Center usage. The Professional Tutor will also design and deliver writing workshops for multiple audiences.

This is an hourly, part-time position.

1. Qualifications :

A. Educational Background : Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.

B. Experience : Experience in the tutoring of writing at a high school or college level. Proven experience with creating publications preferred.

2. Essential Functions :

  1. Provide direct instructional assistance to students individually and/or in small groups.
  2. Help with the organization and presentation of seminars and workshops that will assist students with academic writing concerns.
  3. Market the services of the Write Place
  4. Attend staff meetings.
  5. Maintain online tutor presence, as needed.
  6. Maintain and record student and usage records as needed; compile data on semester basis.
  7. Report to the Coordinator of the Write Place.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.


Pay scale by degree attainment:
  • Associates Degree: $21.00/hour
  • Bachelors Degree: $23.00/hour
  • Masters or Ph.D: $25.00/hour
