Job Description:

The Department of Sociology at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice beginning Fall 2023. Expectations include, but are not limited to teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

The Department of Sociology is home to majors in Sociology and Criminal Justice. The thriving Department, whose eleven faculty is highly collegial and engaged as teachers, scholars, and mentors, actively pursues the development of a dynamic learning environment for students. The Department is part of the School of Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 2,300 students majoring in 20 programs. Duties include but not limited to : teaching courses in the Criminal Justice major and other courses to meet department needs; conduct independent or collaborative research; provide service to the department and university.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or ABD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or related discipline (doctorate required by time of appointment)
  • American Criminal Justice system Expertise
  • Expertise in one or more of the following
    • GIS
    • Global/Comparative
    • Inequality
    • White Collar, Corporate, and Cyber Crime
    • Mental Health
    • Sex Crime
    • Juvenile Delinquency and Justice
    • General Research
    • General Teaching
  • experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
