MCLA values a culture of undergraduate teaching and research that embraces high-impact educational practices across the curriculum, including internships, study away, and independent research. Located in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, an area known for its mountain ranges, hiking trails, and panoramic views, MCLA's North Adams campus benefits from a vibrant creative community and a booming regional economy.

Job Description:

The department of Chemistry at MCLA seeks applicants for a full time (9-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry, to begin fall of 2023. With its strong foundation in the liberal arts, the department is in the process of redesigning its curricula to provide greater breadth in its degree offerings, including programs that are responsive to the needs of local industries (quality control, biomanufacturing, healthcare, etc.). Therefore, we seek candidates with a wide range of experience who are eager to work collaboratively and innovatively to help shape our department's degree offerings.

We seek candidates who are engaged and dedicated teachers of undergraduate chemistry. Our student body consists largely of first-generation and underrepresented groups, so familiarity with effective pedagogy that creates an inclusive and supportive environment is paramount. Teaching responsibilities may include General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and other upper-level chemistry courses. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, and faculty are expected to be engaged in advising, curricular assessment, service to the college (shared governance committees, search committees, etc.), and professional development. A research program involving undergraduate students is highly encouraged and valued, and supported by our impressive suite of advanced instrumentation.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Experience teaching college-level chemistry is desirable, as well as dedication to excellence in teaching, including pedagogies that improve engagement and success of students from underrepresented populations.
