Description

The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse invites applications for an Instructor: a full-time, one-year, renewable appointment. The successful applicant will demonstrate scholarly expertise and effective teaching in rhetoric and composition studies as it intersects with one or more of the following areas: African American rhetorics; cultural rhetorics; Latinx rhetorics; Indigenous rhetorics; Asian American rhetorics. We welcome applicants with secondary interests in areas such as LGBTQ studies, policy rhetoric, and writing in social science contexts.  

The position comes with a 3/3/3 teaching load, primarily in our innovative First-Year Writing program in a department with nine full-time Instructors and nine tenure-line faculty members. Additionally, there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to teach across our undergraduategraduate, and Liberal Studies offerings.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from candidates whose interests intersect with current programs within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Candidates with successful teaching in varied modalities (i.e., in person, online, hybrid) are encouraged.  

The Instructor position requires that the candidate hold a PhD with a specialty or concentration in rhetoric and composition or closely related field by September 1, 2023. DePaul seeks candidates with demonstrated cultural competencies that include teaching, service and research in diverse learning communities.
