Position Summary


The Nursing Lab Coordinator reports to, and works under, the direction of the Nursing Lab Supervisor to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of laboratory operations and resource utilization to meet student learning needs. The Nursing Lab Coordinator stocks, organizes, sets up, and takes down supplies used for student skill practice, demonstrations, and testing. Additional responsibilities include coordination with laboratory staff and faculty to plan, coordinate, and implement laboratory experiences to support student learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Program Coordination

Assists the Nursing Department Lab Supervisor in coordinating the use of laboratories by courses in the Nursing Department. Coordinates daily operations of Nursing Program Laboratories with faculty and staff. Coordinates with Nursing Department Laboratories Supervisor and Course Leaders in the utilization of EBP to integrate best practices in lab instruction. Coordinates with Nursing Department Laboratories Supervisor, Laboratory Staff, and Course Faculty to plan teaching strategies that will increase the student’s ability to meet the skill requirements.

Provides orientation for new faculty related to lab policy, procedures, and equipment. Coordinates with Nursing Department Laboratories Supervisor and Course Faculty to assist in designing learning contracts and learning experiences to remediate students with identified skill deficits. Coordinates practices to maintain appropriate standards of lab cleanliness and assists with finding resources for equipment maintenance and repairs. Creates and maintains a respectful, professional working environment incorporating integrative learning, reflective thinking, and considerate debriefing process

Clerical & Administrative


Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and learning resources in Nursing Program Laboratories. Maintains professional standards reflective of the Ohio Board of Nursing rules and ACEN Standards and Criteria. Assists in maintaining records and inventories of activities, equipment, and supplies in the laboratories. Maintains current healthcare provider CPR certification.

Student Success Support


Creates a learning environment that enhances the student’s ability to use conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills. Works with Nursing Program students in skills practice, demonstration, remediation, and simulation. Reinforces previous learning during open Nursing Program laboratory hours. Teaches, evaluates, and proctors practical nursing and nursing certificate students for laboratory skills competencies development as indicated.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

As directed by the Nursing Department Laboratories Supervisor, in the Nursing Program Laboratories: Performs minor simple repairs and cleans equipment to maintain good working order; collaborates with Facilities for repairs; maintains bio hazardous materials in accordance with policy to ensure safety; organizes and labels supply storage; ensures availability of supplies for students and faculty; monitors and maintains records of supplies used and needed; assures practices are in accordance with requirements for pharmacy license approval; maintains confidentiality of student information. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.

Employee regularly stands and walks for periods of time when teaching and proctoring exams, and observing students. Employee occasionally sits. Employee regularly uses hands to handle and feel, and reaches with arms and hands when reviewing and assisting students with skills such as IV therapy, dressing changes, physical assessment, and giving injections. Employee climbs, crouches, and kneels when storing or retrieving equipment and supplies. Employee frequently talks and hears when teaching students, and during discussion with faculty and staff members. Employee lifts items up to 30 pounds such as transferring mannequins in and out of beds, stocking supplies and equipment, and preparing equipment and supplies for laboratory sessions. Employee frequently exhibits peripheral vision.

Working Conditions

Clinical, hospital, and simulation type laboratories with regular exposure to dust, dirt, water, cleaning elements, clinical care supplies, and other conditions when storing, stocking, preparing, and using supplies. Occasional exposure to minor cuts, needle stick injuries, and other similar injuries. Regular exposure to moderate noise levels typical to laboratories and students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Knowledge of : standard practices in facilities support; use of tools necessary to perform assigned tasks; common safety methods including use of personal protective equipment.

Skilled in : Verbal and written communications; Microsoft office.

Ability to : work independently; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts, and general public; analyze processes and make recommendations for improvement; maintain accurate and complete work records.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Minimum two years employment in direct patient care as a Registered Nurse. Registered Nurse Licensed in Ohio in Good Standing. Current healthcare provider CPR certification. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
