The Department of Music at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Music Theory beginning July 1, 2023.
We are interested in innovative teacher-scholar-performers who engage in both creative and scholarly work and are committed to developing a vision for Mount Holyoke College's music theory curriculum in collaboration with other Music faculty members. The successful candidate will teach recurring courses in music theory and musicianship and will work with the department to expand the theory curriculum to encompass music traditions, idioms and practices beyond the European-American classical canon, incorporating areas such as global, vernacular, popular, jazz, and Indigenous music; contemporary sonic arts; etc.
Additional expertise in the area of keyboard performance, music technology, or any other area of music or interdisciplinary music studies would be an advantage. The teaching expectation is five courses per academic year, in a 3/2 course load.
Candidates from historically underrepresented or marginalized groups are encouraged to apply. The appointee will teach and mentor students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
