The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University seeks a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Counseling.

Position Number:

53313 (NTT) Clinical/Assistant Professor in Counseling

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Teaching counseling related courses and/or related topics with specific emphasis on LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy and/or school counseling, diversity, addiction/substance abuse, research, statistics
  • Academic (individual and group) advising
  • Clinical supervision of students
  • Service to the department to support program projects and events
  • Service to the school and university

This is a renewable non-tenured position with an initial one-year appointment beginning August 2023. Required qualifications include:

  • A doctoral degree in counseling or counselor education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Teaching experience in counseling related courses and/or related topics with specific emphasis on LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, addiction/substance abuse, research, statistics, school counseling, and/or diversity.
  • Demonstrated identity as a counselor educator and clinician.
  • Clinical experience in the field

Preferred qualifications:

  • LPC and/or LMFT
  • Clinical supervisory experience and/or supervisory credential
  • LGBTQ+ counseling experience
  • School counseling experience
  • Addiction/substance abuse experience
  • Clinical counseling experience
  • Experience in supervision/management of a clinic
  • One to three years teaching experience
