Job Summary:

The Department of Film, Television, Games and Interactive Media Marist College invites applications for the position of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Games and Interactive Media to join the School of Communication and the Arts beginning in Fall 2023. The faculty member will be teaching courses in the Media Studies & Production major and Games & Emerging Media program (which is recognized as one of the top 50 game programs in the world by Princeton Review). We encourage applicants who can demonstrate through their teaching, research, and service, their abilities to contribute to Marist’s identity as an institution that welcomes and embraces diversity.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An M.F.A., Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a relevant discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: game art, game development, Unity engine, Unreal engine, game design, virtual reality, augmented reality, modding, and/or human-computer interaction.
  • Ability to teach courses that align with their expertise, selected from a range of courses such as Introduction to Design, Digital Toolbox, Game Art, Unity Engine, Unreal Engine, Level Design, Business of Games, and/or Human-Computer Interaction.
  • Ability to interact effectively orally and in writing with a culturally diverse range of students and colleagues.
Essential Functions:

Applicants should have the ability to teach in the field of game development, as well as the ability to help develop new curricula in this field. Applicants should have a well-articulated research and/or creative agenda in games.

Required duties besides teaching and research include engagement in college and professional services such as advising/mentoring students, serving on department, school, or college committees.

  • Evidence of successful teaching
  • Contact with industry leaders and ability to expand partnerships and career opportunities for students
  • Significant professional experience in game development, art, or design

Advancing candidates may be asked to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of sample syllabi and assignments, teaching statement, diversity statement, a writing sample, and other additional materials.

About the Department/School:

The Department of Film, Television, Games and Interactive Media has more than 120 students enrolled in two majors (Media Studies and Production and Games and Emerging Media) and 20+ full-time and part-time faculty members. The School of Communication and the Arts is home to a nationally renowned internship program, the Center for Sports Communication, the Center for Social Media, and a wide variety of discipline-specific student groups and clubs, including the innovative PlayLab. Our students regularly participate in case study competitions and other and award-winning student projects.

The Film, Television, Games and Interactive Media Department is housed in Marist’s School of Communication and the Arts, which prepares students for careers in communication, media, fashion & art practices, building valuable skills that complement a foundation in a liberal arts education.
