The Department of Psychology at Shippensburg University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Cognitive Psychology, specializing in adulthood and/or gerontology, at the assistant professor level, effective January 2023. A doctoral degree in a related area in psychology is required; ABDs will be considered, but the individual must have completed the doctoral degree by August 2023. The university and department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of underrepresented groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply for this position.
This position carries a 4-4 teaching load and requires delivering face to face (undergraduate) and online (graduate) courses. The teaching responsibilities of this position include the following: cognitive psychology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and adulthood and aging courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching load would be rounded out with courses in General Psychology, and other courses related to the individual’s expertise. A faculty member in our department is expected to advise psychology majors, involve students in scholarly activity outside the classroom, and contribute substantial service to the department, university, and community. A demonstration of teaching effectiveness focusing on a topic relevant to an undergraduate course in cognition or adulthood and evidence of a commitment to understanding diverse populations will be required of candidates invited for an on-campus interview. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and sufficient course enrollment and budget allocations. Upon appointment, all candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
The review of completed applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit a letter of application which should include a description of teaching and research experience, and commitment to working with diverse populations, a current vita, evidence of teaching effectiveness, contact information for three references, and all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial for application, official prior to interview).
Shippensburg University is an equal opportunity employer and, in compliance with federal and state laws and university policy, is committed to providing equal educational and employment opportunities for all persons without regard to age, color, national origin, race, religion, disability, veteran status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Individuals from traditionally underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.
