Summary/Objective

The Assistant Director of Athletics Ticket Sales and Marketing will be a key member of the Athletics and Recreation Department who will lead and assist in daily operations and activities, specifically relating to marketing & promotions, on-campus relations and partnerships, ticket sales and box office operations, and sponsorship sales and fulfillment. The individual for this position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Corporate Partnerships.

Essential Functions
  1. Leading and assisting with the marketing and promotions of American University Athletics to increase awareness with the end goal of increased ticket sales and overall event attendance: Creates and implements strategic marketing plans for each sport . Writes copy for emails, digital ads, webpages and other marketing collateral.
  2. Creating innovative marketing plans (email, social media, promotions, etc.) to increase on campus engagement with students, faculty, staff, and alumni and create campus and community partnerships: Develops marketing plans, ticket sales strategies and game promotions to target students, alumni, faculty and staff, youth groups and local communities to promote AU Athletics . Responsible for maintaining strong communications and creating partnerships with the on campus and local area communities.
  3. Managing Game Day Ticket operations and assisting with in game strategies to improve the overall game day environment: Leading all ticketing and box office operations for all ticketed Athletics events . Assists in the coordination and supervision of in-game, half-time, and special event promotions to include planning, design, and execution of a strategies to improve fan engagement and the overall gameday environment.
  4. Administrative tasks including box office reconciliation, budget management, training of student workers and interns and coordinating worker schedules: Recruits, employs, and gives administrative and on-site supervision and training to part-time box office and marketing student workers and interns . Maintaining and managing a general budget for ticketing, box office operations, supplies, and workers.

  • Manages a team of 20+ student workers and interns.
Work Environment
  • This position is required to work nights and weekends, including some holidays with a limited amount of supervision.
  • This position may require some travel.
  • This position may require the lifting of heavy materials and equipment.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. A Bachelor's degree in Business, Sports Management, Marketing, or a related field, or the equivalent experience in a collegiate or professional sports marketing and/or ticket office environment is required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Must be team-oriented and possess strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Applicant must be available on nights and weekends, including some holidays – this includes all home events and occasional travel as needed.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office and Google Applications with basic Photoshop and InDesign skills.
  • Knowledge of PCI compliance
Preferred Education and Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in Athletics ticket sales and marketing or related field. Experience with University Tickets and BOCA printers.
