Position Summary

The mission of the Information Technology Division is to develop the long-term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University's mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community.

Instructional Technology Services (ITS) provides support and leadership to the university in the development of strategies that facilitate the successful uses of technologies to enhance teaching and learning, create effective learning environments, and facilitate research and learning innovations. Instructional Technology Services is made up of 19 staff and four administrators.

Under general supervision of the ITS Director, Associate Director and Learning Environments Manager, incumbent provides advanced tier 2 and tier 3 classroom support to faculty across the general assignment classrooms at San Diego State University. As a senior member of the ITS Learning Environments group, this position serves a primary role in the design, programming, and installation of classroom AV systems. This includes construction, maintenance, control systems programming, advanced troubleshooting, and support of classroom technologies. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, telecommunications, film and new media, or relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of experience providing academic technology support in a higher education setting.
  • Experience programming Extron Electronics control systems (e.g. Matrix, Pro Series, DTP CrossPoint, GVE) or similar control systems.
  • Extron, or other relevant, AV Certifications
  • Experience preparing diagrams and appropriate documentation (e.g. line drawings, floor plans, parts list, work plans) for classroom design and development projects.




Specialized Skills Required
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of a broad range of audio and video equipment, including distribution and projection systems.
  • Experience with the design, fabrication, and retrofitting of Smart Classroom or classroom audiovisual systems.
  • Experience evaluating and recommending audiovisual equipment for Smart Classroom or classroom systems.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • California driver's license.

  • Certification of completion of driver safety training as required by CSU Office of Risk Management must be obtained as soon as possible after hire date.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,800 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
