The Center for Wireless Information Systems and Computational Architectures (WISCA) and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering seek applicants for an Assistant Research Professor. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Bliss on 5G/6G and Forward Error Correction.  This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment. The initial appointment is for one year. Renewal for the second and third years is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Start date is negotiable. Salary is competitive and funding for computer resources and travel reimbursement is possible.

The successful candidate will have access to and work with ASU’s Center for Wireless Information Systems and Computational Architectures (WISCA) which is directed by Prof. Bliss. WISCA has 25 affiliated faculty that cover a broad range of research areas that include: system design; wireless communications theory; information and estimation theory; algorithm development; signal processing and machine learning; hardware development; system-on-chip design; and experimental demonstrations.  Funding for WISCA comes from a diverse portfolio of research grants including DARPA, AFRL, ONR, OUSD, and many other sponsors.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

• A Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering, or a closely related field by the position start date.

• Cooperatively work with faculty in research; may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants or contracts administered by the university and may serve on appropriate department and graduate supervisory committees

• Independently lead research and supervise research projects.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with 5G/6G technologies and standards

• Experience with modern forward error correction (FEC) coding (theory and implementation)

• Expert/extensive knowledge in wireless communications theory and algorithms

• Experience working with SDRs

• Proficient in C/C++, MATLAB, and Python

• Experience in VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog

• Experience in C/C++, MATLAB, and Python
