Located in sunny Miami, Florida, St. Thomas University is a private, non-profit university that offers 39 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees at its picturesque 144-acre campus and through distance learning. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dean should be an individual with a proven record of accomplishment in partnership development, building strong academic programs, recruiting, training, evaluating excellent faculty, and building excellence in academic operations. The Dean will be the champion of the School of Nursing and the point person for the programs. Under the direction of the Provost of the University, the Dean is responsible for the overall coordination and leadership of all academic matters of the School of Nursing. STU currently has undergraduate nursing programs both on-line and on ground and graduate nursing programs on-line. The Dean will direct and be responsible for recruitment and enrollment goals and ensure that the marketing of the programs is competitive. The Dean will oversee and direct all communications goals for new and returning students. STU has a unique advantage of offering programs internationally particularly in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with the program directors and faculty, promote the development and ongoing review of academic programs to increase the academic quality in all curricular programming.
  • Oversee compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace and placement expectations.
  • Responsible for providing leadership in managing, planning, and implementing comprehensive pre- and post-licensure nursing programs (including graduate level programs) for delivery in support of University.
  • Ensure processes are in place to track, monitor and record student completion and/or program outcomes.
  • Oversee the implementation of academic strategic planning.
  • Monitors NCI-EX scores and proactively creates, implements, and communicates appropriate corrective action plans when outcomes do not meet institutional goals.
  • Make recommendations regarding the instructional budget of the institution and oversee the budget for the School of Nursing.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer, Program Directors, Faculty, Simulation Lab Coordinator and Skills Laboratory Coordinator to ensure availability of supplies, classrooms, and staffing required for the academic instruction of the program.
  • Reviews and develops action plan based on student and faculty feedback for improvement of program.
  • Coordinates the hiring, evaluation and professional development of faculty, program directors, and staff in the School of Nursing.
  • Make recommendations on faculty promotions and contracts
  • Review and approve School of Nursing policies.
  • Assures student course evaluations are administered each term, and that the feedback is provided to faculty in a timely fashion.
  • Holds regular faculty meetings to provide for subject matter correlation and curriculum evaluation, and to coordinate activities of importance to full-time and adjunct faculty. Be accountable for the University's compliance with accreditation requirements for all academic programs;
  • Make decisions concerning the placing of students on academic probation and the dismissal of students for academic deficiency.
  • Establish recruitment and enrollment goals.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The Dean of the School of Nursing reports directly to the Provost, works in accordance with University policies, procedures, and objectives.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Dean of School of Nursing supervises the School of Nursing.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Must hold an unencumbered current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida or Compact License.
  • PhD or DNP degree is required.
  • Five (5) years of senior level experience in higher education and possesses a distinguished record of excellence in teaching and nursing; clinical practice in Nursing as noted in CV.
  • Position requires critical thinking, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making.
  • Physical demands in classroom and office are minimal and considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as records, files, and books (10 pounds maximum).
  • Will be a bridge between administration and School of Nursing;
  • Has previous experience with CCNE/ACEN or NLN accreditation process.
  • Is an effective leader and advocate for faculty, staff and students;
  • Understand the dynamics of the trends and changes in nursing education;
  • Effective interprofessional collaboration in academia and healthcare.
Tuition Benefit

After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
