Senior Accountant

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant performs accounting functions to record all financial transactions on a timely and accurate basis. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller.

Essential Functions

• Prepares journal entries and budget entries for posting to general ledger
• Reviews and performs account and bank reconciliations on a timely basis
• Responsible for the issuance of the Trial Balance and other internal reports
• Reconciles investments to market value on a monthly and annual basis
• Prepares detailed listing of endowment gifts received, units allocated, and market values for each individual endowment fund
• Supports the Controller in the month end and year end accounting close process resulting in an accurate and timely close of the financial books each period
• Assists Controller with annual budget preparation
• Assists Controller with fiscal year closing, preparation of audit schedules, and other audit procedures
• Reviews of Designated, Restricted, Endowment, and Annuity and Plant Fund analysis
• Prepares, schedules, and assists Controller in preparation for 990 tax return
• Act as backup for printing general accounts payable checks
• Reviews and coordinates annual preparation of 1099 forms
• Audits credit card expense reports
• Acts as a positive change agent and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as needed and assigned
• Responsibilities, activities and duties are subject to change at any time with or without notice
• Occasional evening and weekend obligations

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
• 5 plus years in a staff accountant or accounting management position
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP )
• Strong Excel skills
• Experience managing, developing & fostering collaboration among a team
• High level of integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Ellucian Colleague a plus
• Knowledge of fund accounting
• CPA or Master’s Degree

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
