Job Details
Alfred University seeks qualified applicants to work in the area of ultra high temperature ceramic synthesis, processing and characterization. The project spans 5 individual project areas, with postdoctoral research associates needed with the following skillset:
- Materials science, mechanical engineering and related fields, in order to design and build high temperature materials characterization and properties measurements systems using primarily laser heating.
- Activities will include design of thermal enclosures systems to contain the samples while heating using furnaces and/or laser power sources, with the ability to use either laser interferometers, optical systems, or direct-contact mechanical loads to understand materials responses up to ~2000°C.
- The PDRA will work closely with faculty, other postdocs, laboratory technicians, graduate students and scientists from outside laboratories.
