The John H. Lounsbury College of Education at Georgia College offers several award-winning undergraduate and graduate degrees. The COE is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Lounsbury College of Education innovatively and collaboratively develops and empowers educational professionals, P-12 communities, and the Georgia College community to promote diversity, equity, advocacy, and excellence in learning, teaching, service, and scholarship.

Job Summary

The Dean of the John H. Lounsbury College of Education is responsible for leadership of the College and for implementation of the University's goals, giving special attention to the objectives of undergraduate and graduate education.

Responsibilities

Administration -

* Implement a college-based vision including short- and long-term plans that are based on the university's vision statement and strategic goals and that the College's missions are aligned with the university's mission.
* Responsible for recruitment and employment of qualified faculty and staff, including an assessment and recommendation of faculty candidates (SACSCOC credentials), administration of faculty and staff development programs, and faculty reappointment and tenure and promotion.
* Responsible for working with the department chairs to staff all classes, supervise all employees in the College including administration of performance evaluations, development of short- and long-term plans to advance the college's educational objectives within the context of the university's vision.
* Responsible for maintaining national accreditation and state compliance for initial and advanced programs. Participate in a program review for evaluation of existing degree, certification, and other academic programs and implementation of improvements to enhance the quality of instruction, academic programs, and research.
* Recruit, enroll, and retain students for undergraduate and graduate programs.
* Manage college facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes quality learning in classrooms and laboratories.
* Support graduates in their efforts to secure employment or gain admission to graduate or professional Schools.
* Responsible for maintaining external relations with donors, school districts, and specific partnerships that address the university/college mission; i.e., the Georgia College Early College, Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy and the Georgia College Montessori Academy at the Early Learning Center.
*  Pursue the continued development of the Maker Space and expand its impact on student learning.

Administration - Fiscal -
The dean develops the college's annual budget request. Among the tasks associated with this duty are the following:
* Justification for all funding requests with analysis of projected costs.
*  Administration of all college budgets with fidelity.
*  Appropriate assignment of faculty and staff in compliance with the institutional plan.

Administration - Liaison -
* Participates in the development of the overall admissions policies for the university and appropriate school.
*  Formulation of program proposals to support the university's educational mission.
*  Administration of College participation in undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, orientation, and advisement programs.
* Supports the university's private development activities.

The Dean serves on governance teams, committees, and accepts other duties as assigned by the Provost.

Required Qualifications

* An earned doctorate in a discipline represented within the college.
*A demonstrated record of effective administrative leadership and excellence in teaching, research, and service and be eligible as full professor with tenure at time of appointment.
*Minimum 5-7 years.
*Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, including a well-developed sense of equity and integrity.
*A strong commitment to the college.

*  Experience with accreditation.
*  Demonstrated effectiveness in management of fiscal resources.
