Reports To: Assistant Vice President, Intercollegiate Athletics/ Senior Woman Administrator

Positions Supervised: Coordinator, NCAA Academics; Academic Coordinator; Head Coach

Job Summary

The assistant athletic director for academic success and development is responsible for oversight of all aspects of NCAA student-athlete academics, the Academic Success Center (ASC) and student-athlete development programming at Lindenwood University.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Oversees and assists with student development, academic success, academic athletics eligibility and progress towards graduation for NCAA student-athletes
  • Oversees the daily operation of the ASC, including physical space, structures and offerings for student-athletes
  • Supervises regular Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meetings, executive board operations and other activities
  • Creates, implements and evaluates comprehensive academic plans for assigned teams
  • Oversees student-athlete development programming, including career development, community outreach, the athlete mentorship program (AMP) and SAAC events
  • Focuses on high-impact practices that positively influence the retention, eligibility and personal development of Lindenwood’s student-athletes
  • Communicates regularly and intervenes purposefully with a diverse group of student-athletes with a range of communication styles and skill sets
  • Evaluates incoming student profiles to assist with creation of individualized academic success plans
  • Collects and analyzes data regarding student-athlete academic performance and ASC usage to regularly implement positive change
  • Maintains sound documentation practices
  • Maintains highly confidential and organized academic records for teams, including attendance, grades, testing/accommodations and other essential information for academic success
  • Disseminates academic information to coaches and other necessary staff in a regular, timely and effective manner
  • Communicates regularly with faculty members regarding student-athlete success and welfare
Leadership and Strategic Thinking
  • Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Serves as a sports administrator for assigned teams
  • Enforces study hall rules and expectations for all student-athletes in the ASC
  • Stays current in effective methods on intervention, communication and hands-on strategies for academic success and student development
  • Creates positive relationships with the campus community to enhance student-athletes’ experiences and ensure desirable outcomes and goals
Employee Management and Development
  • Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and monitors performance of all ASC staff and student employees
  • Sets clear performance expectations and holds employees accountable
  • Conducts thorough and timely performance evaluations based on evidence, observation and feedback
Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ related administrative experience
