Job Details

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for a full-time academic staff position to begin in August of 2023. The primary responsibility for this position is to provide assistance to the Technical Director and provide supervision for the scene shop and will be required to teach Theatre Appreciation, technical production within Foundations of Theatre, and potentially other courses or content, such as entertainment drafting, automation, and pneumatics; service and/or creative activity/research expected.

Assistant Technical Director/Scene Shop Supervisor (60%)
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the ATD will assist and coordinate technical and production details as required for all main stage performances and activities in spaces; manage student workers and assign daily tasks in accordance with expectations formed in collaboration with the Technical Director; maintain a safe and efficient scene shop; implement and revise drawings; run errands using own vehicle (will need a valid driver’s license). Potential to serve as Technical Director or to design Lighting, Scenery, or Sound on production, if desired. Opportunities for creative research, including through the pursuit of university grants, allow this position to bring additional expertise into our program.


Assistant Teaching Professor (20%)
Under the general supervision of the department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. In addition, the workload may involve advising students and/or providing other services to the department. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
