Description
The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce Adjunct Wind, Brass, and Percussion teaching positions in the Winds, Brass, and Percussion Department at the Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, commencing as soon as possible.
Candidates should be experienced and interested in teaching beginning students in a group class format as part of the Peabody Preparatory’s growing Winds, Brass and Percussion Department. Candidates should be prepared to teach their classes after school at assigned Baltimore City Public Schools. Opportunities in private lessons, chamber music, and large ensembles may be available in future semesters.
ABOUT US:
Located in the heart of Baltimore’s Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Peabody Institute was founded in 1857 as America’s first academy of music. Today, through its degree-granting Conservatory and the community-based Preparatory school of music and dance, Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level.
The Peabody Preparatory shares space with the Peabody Conservatory in downtown Baltimore and has three satellite branches in Towson, Annapolis, and Howard County, MD communities. The Preparatory has approximately 2,000 students studying all orchestral instruments, including guitar, piano, voice, dance, theory, composition, early childhood, orchestra, chamber music, and more.
Our wind, brass, and percussion faculty are highly skilled and dedicated individuals as part of a vibrant and active department committed to helping all students achieve their potential; we embrace the novice musician and the serious student aspiring toward a career in music.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in music and or music education required. Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
- Documented successful teaching experience required.
- While department emphasis is on classical technique and repertoire, candidates with training in jazz and popular styles are welcome and encouraged.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
