Position Description:
The Johns Hopkins University invites nominations and applications for Program Director, Business and Regulatory Science in the Advanced Academic Programs’ (AAP) Center for Biotechnology Education (CBE), a division of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. The Program Director will report to the Director of the CBE. The Johns Hopkins University is committed to hiring candidates who, through their teaching and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

The CBE seeks to hire an entrepreneurial, innovative, and forward-thinking individual to assist in the management of the Business and Regulatory Science graduate offerings. This new faculty member will also work collaboratively with Center faculty to set goals and direction in its pursuit of teaching excellence. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable faculty position with the academic title of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

Advanced Academic Programs
AAP offers rigorous and high-quality master’s degrees and certificates in three locations: the Washington, DC Center, the Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD, and online. AAP enrolls almost 6,000 students each academic year in over 45 programs and distinguishes itself through its intensive instructional assistance, selective admissions, and 60 dedicated full-time faculty. Tenured Krieger School faculty members serve as Program Chairs and oversee the academic rigor of AAP programs and courses. AAP’s website, http://advanced.jhu.edu/ , provides additional information.

Academic Responsibilities
  • Teaching three graduate courses per year, including preparation and time spent in the classroom (online or onsite)
  • Advising students from diverse backgrounds
  • Providing innovative leadership for curriculum design and new course development to ensure the growth and delivery of the programs
  • University Service
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Mentoring and evaluating full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty
  • Consulting with the Program Chair and AAP Dean or designee in personnel decisions
  • Managing a program operations budget
  • Conducting the program admissions processes, including reviewing, and approving prospective students’ admissions materials
  • Providing overall supervision for the master’s of science programs in Business Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Food Safety, and Regulatory Science
  • Scheduling courses and setting teaching assignments throughout the year
  • Coordinating, as needed, with the Office of Enrollment Services and Student Success
Qualifications

The Program Director’s role is critical to maintaining the overall high quality of this program. The Program Director must be entrepreneurial, energetic, collaborative, and inclusive. They must have the business acumen necessary to lead a successful professional education enterprise, and a passion for education and its power to change lives, especially for part-time and non-residential students. A track record of building and managing successful onsite and online education programs, and skills in instructional design, content development, and instructional technologies, are important. Candidates who have experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds are of particular interest.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in Regulatory Science, Biotechnology Business, Business or relevant field
  • Five years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
  • Three years of experience at the Associate Director level, or equivalent administrative experience
  • Three years of professional work experience in the biotech business and/or regulatory fields
  • Ability to teach a wide variety of courses in the business and/or regulatory fields
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum design
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Regulatory Affairs Certification
  • Three to Five or more years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
  • Some professional work experience in the business and/or regulatory science industry
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and multiple deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience managing a degree or certificate program

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
