Position Description:
The Johns Hopkins University invites nominations and applications for the Program Coordinator position in the Advanced Academic Programs’ (AAP) Center for Biotechnology Education (CBE), a division of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. The Program Coordinator will report to the Program Director for Biotechnology. The Johns Hopkins University is committed to hiring candidates who, through their teaching and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

The CBE seeks to hire an entrepreneurial, innovative, and forward-thinking individual to assist in the management and teaching of the CBE’s graduate offerings. This new faculty member will also work collaboratively with a faculty of 11 full-time members to set the goals and direction of the Center in its pursuit of teaching excellence. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable faculty position with the academic title of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

Advanced Academic Programs
AAP offers rigorous and high-quality master’s degrees and certificates in three locations: the Washington, DC Center, the Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD, and online. AAP enrolls almost 6,000 students each academic year in over 45 programs and distinguishes itself through its intensive instructional assistance, selective admissions, and 60 dedicated full-time faculty. Tenured Krieger School faculty members serve as Program Chairs to oversee the academic rigor of the CBE graduate offerings. AAP’s website, http://advanced.jhu.edu/ , provides additional information.

Academic Responsibilities:
  • Teaching six graduate courses per year, including the preparation for and time spent in the classroom (online or onsite)
  • Advising students from diverse backgrounds
  • Providing innovative leadership for curriculum design and new course development to ensure the growth and delivery of the programs
  • University Service
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Participate in adjunct faculty hiring and development
  • Assisting in the admission process
  • Assist in the planning of onsite and/or remote events and/or seminars
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a life science field with related graduate research experience
  • One to two years of teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
  • The ability to teach a wide variety of courses in the biotechnology field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a life science field with related graduate research experience
  • Two or more years of laboratory teaching experience
  • Three or more years of teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level
  • One or more years of work experience in the life science and/or biotechnology field
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and multiple deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
